Some of you may have noticed the site’s DNS was down for a month now. We had the chance to rethink our hosting setup and content strategy while we were working things out. While it wasn’t an easy decision, we concluded that it’s time to shift away from Wordpress for a myriad of reasons.

Over the years, WordPress’ pricing has become increasingly steep, and we’ve decided it’s time for a change. Nerdhut’s main goal has always been and will always be to provide novel content and share knowledge for free without ads, and paying Automattic was simply no longer feasible.

In the coming days, we’ll be migrating this blog to a custom GitHub Pages setup. This will give us faster loading, more control over the content, and improved data protection without additional cost. Here’s what the change means for you:

  • The existing content will remain online at nerdhutblog.wordpress.com so existing links won’t break.
  • Once the migration is complete, links under nerdhut.de will point to the new GitHub Pages site.
  • All previous content will be copied over to ensure continuity.
  • The page style will change, possibly to a more streamlined layout.
  • Comments will be closed, and subscriptions are no longer available for now, though alternative options may appear in the future.
  • Our contact email and social media links remain unchanged.

This change isn’t immediate, but will take effect over the next few days.

Thank you for being part of this journey over the past 10 years and for your continued support! We look forward to seeing you on the other side!

Best,
-Dan (from nerdhut.de)
